Hippo stuffed animals were part of Sir Winslows Zoo. I decided to make a plush toy after reading about the hippo in his journals.

Sir Winslow took many trips to the continent of Africa to explore jungles, deserts, and open savannahs. On each of these, he discovered animals that he had never seen before or even heard of. However not so with the hippo. There had been one in the London Zoo since 1850, the family had seen it several times and decided they wanted one for the zoo at Windy Willows. The hippo was found on one of his last safaris in the country of Zambia.

This stuffed hippo pillow is handmade from super soft gray minky. They measure 12x18 inches for the large hippo and 8 x 10 for the medium size. These critters are filled with poly fiberfill. To start it was cut out by hand which gives them some variation. Then the whimsical pillow was assembled with love using both machine sewing and hand stitching. It is what gives them character and personality.

Custom orders are available with color and fabric variations and they certainly can be as unique as you want them to be. If you have jungle decor wouldn't it be a great addition? They are perfect for birthday gifts, baby shower gifts or just as hippo toys.
