Pink flamingos are very social animals. They live in groups that can number into the thousands. Sir Winslow was intrigued by this and decided to study them closer. He went to Bolivia to study the James flamingo that is common to the area. The unique feature of this bird is the black feathers. These are actually the feathers that allow the flamingo to fly. Sir Winslow took careful notes of this and was one of the first explorers to bring home this information to England.
