Journal Entry May 28, 2016 - The journey begins
When I began this adventure 3 years ago, I had no idea it would be so successful. I have to admit that we saw an owl at a craft fair, and of course Emily wanted one. I know, I know, never rip off a design--but I knew I could do something even better. Christmas was coming, and I thought it would make great gifts for the girls.
I drew out a pattern on a paper bag, cut it out, and bam! Owls were born! Of course there were a few adjustments, but that is the gist of it. Puppies came a close second, and foxes were next. (I will talk more about this in a later post).
Today, I want to talk about how I am inspired, because it sounds like a good place to begin. Interestingly enough, it is not animals that get me going. I am not crazy about them, even if my kids are! So…what does inspire me then? I really think that it has been other artists. I have a rather random list of people who have impressed me over the years. Some I have had since childhood, some came along in college, and some were discovered when I had children.
People that inspire me:
I also draw heavily on what I find on Pinterest to tweak an idea. My mom is a good sounding board--she always has been. And sometimes I make what my kids want or, of course, what a customer wants. One of my best customers has also given me ideas for several really good sellers.
Well, that's about all for now. Catch you in the next journal entry.
