keeping up with the Smythes
This would be a topic Lady Suzanne was far more interested in than I. She was running Windy Willows, and I have read in the journals about some of the events that were held there.
I, however am not a trendy person. I want to admit that off the bat. Don’t ask me what the next big thing in jewelry is or what the fashion icons are wearing. I just don’t know. Having said that, I can do research as well as the next person. I thought I would do some digging on MY subject, animal pillows!
Stuffed animals have been around for a long time. Everyone knows the story of Teddy Roosevelt and how the stuffed bear was named after him - or his son - something like that. There are bunched of companies that have made millions selling to kids everywhere. Steif, Beenie Babies, Webkins, Pillow Pets to name a few. I think the latest craze is Tsum Tsums?
As a small business owner I have to be careful about copying any of these. I simply don’t want to get in trouble. But thankfully there are other ways of following trends that are safe and fun and totally creatively ME! Small businesses need to keep up with trends as much as we can. I do want to know what colors are popular and what fabrics people are into.
The colors for summer are rose quartz and serenity. So basically pale pink and pale blue. Good thing they did not ask to name them! I just made this gray owl in what could be considered rose quartz. I guess that makes me trendy in my own way.
The next two pictures show what are the projected for next year. I love anything paisley so I am very happy with what is coming. The bright purples and yellows are a lot of fun too, makes me excited about what we will see at fabric stores!
As always I invite you to comment and share your thoughts. Questions welcome too!
