And other amazing facts
As you can see this giraffe is super impressed!
I think one of the most amazing thing about this very tall animal is the size of the babies! They are born 6 feet tall. How many humans even get to that height? Crazy! And then ten hours after they are born they are able to RUN! Even crazier! WOW!
Just like snowflakes and human fingerprints, no two giraffes have the same spot pattern. I like to say that about my giraffes too! None of them are exactly alike. Each one has a personality that shines through.
Even giraffes tongues are huge. They are up to 45cm long and are specially adapted to allow giraffes to eat from trees that other animals would avoid, such as acacias which are very thorny. And even their foot steps are huge!
When giraffes walk, they move both legs on one side of their body and then both legs on the other side; this is unique to giraffes. However, they run in a similar style to other mammals, swinging their rear legs and front legs in unison. They can reach 35 mph at full speed but only in brief spurts.
Giraffes only spend between 10 minutes and two hours asleep per day. They have one of the shortest sleep requirements of any mammal. Maybe that's because they have to digest all those ymmy leaves they just ate.
Giraffes live mostly in savanna areas in the sub-Saharan part of Africa. Except those made in my shop. I don't think any have traveled to that continent!
